This would some day have been a palm frond. It is as thin as paper, and pretty strong. It is too tough to be chewed at all.

Very interesting website. Nice photos and stories. I especially like your explanation of preparing swamp cabbage. When I was a kid, growing up on a farm in North Florida, Mama would give a piece of the accordion-like cabbage to my sisters and me, and we would pretend to be ladies fanning ourselves. Would you grant me permission to use your photo that says, “This would some day have been a palm frond…”?
