Fruit is poisonous unless green and cooked.

A native wild plant in Florida with wide medicinal properties though most parts are toxic unless cooked, with the exception of the slimy red coating around the seeds that is sweet to eat in ripe unbroken fruits. The seeds should be spit out and not eaten.
